Net News (Text/Wu Qixuan; Photos/Luo Wenfeng) To further enhance students’awareness of mental health, enrich campus cultural life, and showcase the youthful energy and artistic flair of college students in the new era, the 2025 "Ignite Youth · Dance the Splendor" Sign Language Dance Competition was successfully held on the evening of October 28 at the Lecture Hall of Building No. 1, Nanchang Campus of Jiangxi University of Science and Technology. Organized by the University’s Mental Health Education Center and co-hosted by the Psychology Department of the School of Software Engineering, the event saw enthusiastic participation from all enrolled students of the School of Software Engineering, with multiple teams competing on stage and conveying positive youthful energy through the art of sign language dance.
Centered around the theme “Ignite Youth · Dance the Splendor,” this competition focused on the healthy and optimistic psychological traits of contemporary college students and encouraged innovative integration of artistic expression with students’ professional specialties. According to the event guidelines, each freshman class formed a team of 10–15 members, while students from other grades participated through voluntary registration. Each team meticulously refined every detail of their performance—from costume coordination and choreographic formations to music selection—demonstrating exceptional teamwork and creative ingenuity.
The competition venue buzzed with excitement. Under the spotlight, participating teams took the stage in neat uniforms and orderly steps, strictly adhering to the requirements of “swift and smooth entrance, neat and orderly exit,” reflecting their outstanding spirit and discipline. During performances, sign language dance—centered on hand movements and distinct from traditional dance forms—was executed with standardized, precise gestures perfectly synchronized to the musical rhythm.
The judging panel evaluated performances comprehensively based on criteria such as movement fluidity, emotional expression, and creative choreography to ensure fairness and impartiality.
After intense competition, the team “Deep Blue” from Class ZhiJian 254 won first prize with their performance of “You’ve Never Left”; the team “Software Wings” from Class Virtual 251 secured second prize with “Left Hand, Right Hand.” Third prizes were awarded to four teams: “Time Collectors” from Class Software 251 for “Left Hand, Right Hand,” “Hakimi North-South Green Team” from Class Software 252 for “Invisible Wings,” “Dream Chasers” from Class ZhiJian 252 for “Me and My Motherland,” and “Rising Sun Team” from Class Virtual 252 for “The Brightest Star in the Night Sky.”
During the award ceremony, judges presented certificates of honor to the winning teams and encouraged all students to take this competition as an opportunity to embrace life with a positive mindset.
The successful hosting of this sign language dance competition not only provided students with an artistic platform for self-expression but also conveyed warmth and strength through silent dance, effectively enhancing students’ mental health literacy and enriching the cultural fabric of campus life. A representative from the Psychology Department of our school stated that they will continue organizing diverse campus activities centered around students’ mental health needs, empowering them to shine brightly on their journey of youth.
